Presence of Universidad Nacional de Colombia grows in the world's web

The list corresponds to the second semester of 2010 and it was published last week. Regarding the classification of the first semester of last year, in which the University obtained the 531^st position in the world, Universidad Nacional de Colombia advanced 105 positions, confirming the continuous growth that the Institution has had since the first semester of 2007, when it was on the 1.111^th position.

From last year, the University has advanced 695 positions on this list that measures the presence of academic and scientific production in the Web of more than 20.000 high education institutions in five continents.

From the four aspects analyzed in the measures made by the Cybernetic Lab of the Superior Council for Scientific Research, an entity part of the Ministry of Science and Technology in Spain, Universidad Nacional de Colombia obtained the biggest presence in the Scholar Google database, in which it obtained the ninth position.

On the aspect that measures the size of the institutional web, the University reached the 381^st position; in interinstitutional presence, it reached the 747^th; and regarding the richness of the files (which measures certain types of file formats such as Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Adobe PostScript (.ps), Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt), and that are downloaded from several search engines on Internet (Google, Yahoo Search, Live Search and Exalead), it obtained the 761^st position.

The following four Colombian high education institutions on the list also moved positions: Universidad de Antioquia, from position 799^th to 631^st, Universidad de Los Andes, from 855^th to 700^th; Universidad Javeriana, from 1.045^th to 891^st; and Universidad Del Valle, from 1.076^th to 955^th.

In the world, the first positions were obtained by universities from the United States in the following order: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley and Cornell.

Latin-American

The position obtained by Universidad Nacional de Colombia in the world"s ranking contrasts its growth in Latin America, in which it lost four places, obtaining the 14^th position.

The classification of high education institutions in Latin America was led in this occasion by Universidad de Sao Paulo (Brasil), moving Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México from the first place.

In this regional list, Universidad de Antioquia obtained the 27^th position; Universidad de Los Andes, the 30^th; Universidad Javeriana, the 47^th, and Universidad del Valle, 51^st.
