Last Friday, at 10: 45 a.m., the president of Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Moisés Wasserman, signed the deeds of the new terrain of the University.

At the Notary"s office in Tumaco, the signing of the public document took place, making official the acquisition of the lot designated for the construction of Tumaco Campus of Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

The 44 and a half hectares, located on the 31st kilometer on Tumaco-Pasto road, registered under the name of Catalina Julsan, were bought on a total price of COP 424,825,750.

During the signing of the public document, the President expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition: "This is the first terrain the University buys for the construction of a campus, but it has a great importance, since we reached a national presence in all cardinal points of the country. Besides, it brings the possibility of providing education alternatives for all the inhabitants of the Pacific Region."

With the stamp and sign of the notary Elsa Mireya Salazar, the legal process of the public document finished. "It is very important for us to have the presence of the most important university in the country in this place, and it is also important that students don"t have to go to other places to study, as it usually happens. Tumaco has always been forgotten, but now we know that Universidad Nacional has not forgotten us," asserted the staff member.

The idea of the University is to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the inhabitants of the region, in line with the social and entrepreneurial needs: "We want to offer many programs, because it is better to educate a few professionals, but in different areas, in order to contribute to the development of the country," explained Wasserman.

In addition, the University"s proposal for the region is to create research programs recognizing and highlighting the cultural richness of the Colombian Pacific.
