Abukato, a web tool for farmers
The web application tool provides an information system which helps control the agricultural production process in each of its stages with the purpose of establishing a method to improve crop and harvest management.Manizales, 26 de diciembre de 2016 — Agencia de Noticias UN-
Abukato was designed by Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNal) in Manizales Computer Systems Management student Valentina Ruiz Quintero and will allow farm managers to handle inventory, register batches and perform estimate follow-ups. For this, they can fill in the date, the amount of personnel to hire, time to carry out an activity and possible products to use. The web tool helps to compare the estimated values versus the real stock, observing similarities and differences
“Once the estimation is done, fields are completed with real data impacting the inventory, and subtracting used products,” she said.
“The tool is reliable, safe and applicable. I verified this through my research and it was used to gather information about a farm which cropped avocados. Before data was collected manually which took a lot of time and did not allow comparing expenses or know reliably which products were bought or used,” she said.
Abukato helps to do follow-up during the whole year in crops, alerting the owner which product is about to expire, among other relevant information during the appropriate stage of the crop.
“Collecting and following-up of this information helps make informed decisions about what happens on a farm to save money and optimize time,” said Ruiz.
Another benefit is the possibility of detecting which batches are infected with pests, helping to opportunely activate improvement plans as well as establishing what steps should follow.
“With the information gathered on a daily basis, farm personnel can become cognizant of, for instance, how much time until the harvest, what crop needs to be improved or what products need to be applied and inclusively register batches infected by pests. In conclusion, this application was designed to formalize data,” she said.
With the help of this technological development, the owner of a farm, even if he/she is away, can be informed of the day to day activities of the crop.
To better manage the application users only need a short training session.(Por: end/
